Hosea 6-8
Have you ever noticed how a campfire needs constant attention—another log, a stir of the coals—to keep burning? But what if your desire for sin burned so hot it fueled itself all night long without any help?
That's the sobering picture God paints through Hosea. Israel's idolatry was an all-consuming fire that needed no stoking. They mixed worship of God with pagan practices, reached out to foreign nations instead of their Creator, and forgot the One who had always been faithful to them. God wasn't after more sacrifices—He wanted their hearts.
The warning echoes to us today: whatever we reach out for in this world will never satisfy like God can. He desires mercy, not empty religious rituals. He wants relationship, not performance. The good news? Even in judgment, God promises restoration for those who return to Him.
Where are you reaching today—toward the world's solutions or toward the heart of God?
