Genesis 4: Cain and Abel

What if you have heard the story of Cain and Abel your whole life but never really understood what it was saying? This week we dug into Genesis 4 and challenged some of the things that get repeated from pulpits simply because they preach well, not because they are actually in the text.

The real message hiding in this story is not about the quality of a sacrifice. It is about the danger of trusting your own efforts to reach God. Cain brought his works. Abel brought innocence. And only innocence can replace guilt.

Isaiah reminds us that everything we bring before God is as filthy rags. The only exception is the sacrifice of Christ, which is not of us at all. Redemption is His work alone. Our works flow from salvation, they do not lead to it.
