Luke 4:14-31

Have you ever become so familiar with something incredible that you stopped seeing how incredible it actually is? That is exactly what happened when Jesus returned to his hometown of Nazareth in Luke 4:14-30. He declared the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy right in front of them, and their response went from wonder to rage in a matter of moments. They let familiarity blind them to the miracle standing in their midst.

The God who exists outside of time stepped into it, lived in poverty, endured 33 years of human suffering, and went to the cross for us. None of that should ever feel ordinary. Yet so many of us have heard the story so many times that we have lost the awe it deserves.

Do not let the greatest story ever told become background noise. Open the Gospels with fresh eyes and let the wonder of who Jesus is draw you back to him.
